Starting on the first of October 2021, the Austin Police Department has launched a new yearlong policy in an effort to decrease drinking and driving. For the next year, APD will essentially be able to draw your blood to measure your blood alcohol concentration level whenever they want, even without your consent. 

While it’s not rare for APD to deem certain holiday weekends as No Refusal periods, setting this policy for an entire year will drastically change how DWI investigations are handled in Austin.
