Austin Chronicle Publishes Chris Perri's Article: "Because of COVID-19, It’s Less Safe Behind Bars. Here’s How Federal Prisoners Can Petition to Get Their Sentences Reduced."

No one deserves to die in prison because of COVID-19, but the sad truth is that those incarcerated are more at risk. I wrote an article explaining how, due to the CARE Act, those in federal prisons can apply for early release. I’m thrilled to share that the column was published today in the Austin Chronicle.

You can read it in full here.

The gist: if someone has a year or less on their prison sentence, they may be able to finish out their sentence in a halfway house or on house arrest. If an incarcerated person has more than a year left, they can apply for “compassionate early release.” A proven federal defense lawyer can help with either process.

If you have questions about early prison release due to the coronavirus, post-conviction options such as writs or appeals, or any matters concerning criminal defense, please reach out to our firm.
